Ronel’s Inspiration for Queen of Nightmares

Once upon a time… Right, this isn’t a story.

Though, one can argue that everything is framed as story. You are the protagonist in your story and you have an antagonist you have to face every day: whether it is the weather, dietary restrictions, your adolescent child throwing a tantrum about the weather (I’m looking at you, Caitlin!), your boss (Don’t I look gorgeous first thing in the morning? Now type, writer, type!), illness, or whatever.

I think that is how I came to write about Mab and her adventures. There was just something purely delicious about setting nightmares free and having her enjoy herself in New Orleans.

This song also inspired me (you’ll find reference to it in the story):

Mm… But this post is about getting to know me, isn’t it?

If you’ve been following this blog for a while, you’ll know that I enjoy attending writer’s conferences online and love composting.

And that I really, really like writing about mythology and folklore. I’m also a dark fantasy author. (If you’re not sure what dark fantasy is, check out this post.)

I also find inspiration from my pets. I created pegasi from cleaning up after my chickens and horses. And my Rottweilers are the inspiration behind Faery Dogs (Cù Sìth). You can read all about my Rotties here.

Now you’re going to think that I’m delusional… I know that I didn’t “create” pegasi – Pegasus is part of Greek mythology. What I mean is, I take what is written in folklore and turn it into something new for my writing. Something fresh. Something exciting. After all, every story has already been told – except by you.

I love hearing from my readers. Especially reviews of my books. It’s a conversation that continues and others can join in. I recently got a review for the last book I’d published this year (“Magic at Midnight”) and it inspired me to write an entire series involving that world. Mm, an entire series that involves everything I write about… This is going to be fun!

I’m currently working on completing my Faery Tales series and scheduling pre-orders for next year. All of the stories play off in the same world, there’s a theme connecting all of them (I’d love to hear from readers what they think the theme is!) and I’m only publishing them as ebooks (they’re really short). You can get the first one “The Fae Realm” for free from all online retailers and the second one when you sign up for my newsletter. “Unseen” is a newsletter exclusive book 😉

Maybe I should write more stories featuring Mab? I did use the Dark King and Dagda from other stories in hers… What do you think? Would you like to read more stories about Mab?
