The Inspiration behind the Fingertips of Blood & Oil
The inspiration for my short story, “Fingertips of Blood & Oil,” is the goddess Sedna. Sedna was a First Nations divinity whose severed fingers became the fish, seals, and whales that provided sustenance for humanity. Despite her gifts, this sea goddess could become easily angered and often required appeasement. The sculpture that inspired my story (above) is in the University of Pennsylvania Museum in Philadelphia, PA, but you can read about her in GRUMPY GODS III this Fall!
